Description

Kandangi is a type of Cotton Handloom saree made in Tamil Nadu, India. It is woven by the Nagarathar, Chettiyar and Devanga communities, in the town of Karaikudi. This style of saree, which has two borders and is checkered in the center, has existed for over 250 years. Traditionally, earthy color palette was used due to the easy availability of natural dyes like mancatti (Indian madder) and manjal (turmeric).
